ABOUT PAST EDITIONS

Between 2008 and 2024, seven editions of this prestigious conference have been successfully conducted by Chitkara University. The details of the past editions are as follows. 

WECON 2008

WECON 2008 was the first edition of International Conference on `Wireless Networks and Embedded Systems organized by Electronics & Communication Department, Chitkara Institute of Engineering & Technology (Now Chitkara University) during October 18-19, 2008, in association with George Brown College, Canada. The conference was sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR India). Highlights of WECON 2008 were as follows - 

  • The conference was inaugurated by Dr. C. P. Ravikumar - Director, University Relations, Texas Instruments (India), Prof. Jorge Olenewa - George Brown College Canada and Scientist Dr. R.P Bajpai
  • 2 Volumes of conference proceedings were released featuring 273 papers.
  • Invited talks by technology experts from CEERI Pilani, BITS Pilani, STMicroelectronics, CSIO Chandigarh, GNDU and NITTTR Chandigarh.
  • About 200 delegates attended the conference spread over two days.
  • Seventy-three papers were presented in seven technical sessions.
  • 2 Volumes of conference proceedings were released featuring 273 carefully selected papers after a detailed review.

WECON 2009

WECON 2009 was the second edition of International Conference on Wireless Networks & Embedded Systems conducted during Oct 23-24, 2009, organized by ECE department of Chitkara Institute of Engineering & Technology (Now Chitkara University). The conference was sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR India) and had international association with George Brown College, Canada. Highlights of WECON 2009 were as follows - 

  • Over 250 papers were received during the conference of which 136 were selected for the publication in the conference proceedings.
  • 73 Papers were presented in six parallel sessions.
  • Hands-on workshops on `Wireless Technologies’ by Prof. Jorge Olenewa, George Brown College, Canada.
  • Hands-on workshop on Open Source Embedded Systems Design using Beagle Board’ by Dr. C. P. Ravikumar, Texas Instruments
  • Digital Poster Presentations
  • Industry Exhibit Demonstration Educational Products related to electronics

WECON 2011

The Third Edition of International Conference on Wireless Networks & Embedded Systems was organized during July 18-19, 2011 by Electronics & Communications Department of Chitkara University in association with George Brown College Canada. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Rabi Mahapatra, Director, Embedded System Codesign Group, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. The highlights of WECON 2011 were - 

  • 55 Papers were selected for publication in conference proceedings.
  • Keynote talks by eminent professors from leading foreign universities
  • Prof. Rabi Mahapatra - Texas A&M University, USA.
  • Prof. Jorge Olenewa - George Brown College Canada
  • Prof. P.R. Kumar - University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA
  • Symposium on “RF Data Communications and Wi-Fi” conducted by Prof. Jorge Olenewa, George Brown College Canada
  • Kick Start of five-day embedded systems design workshop by Prof. Rabi Mahapatra conducted under (Indo US Collaboration for Engineering Education) IUCEE.

WECON 2015

The fourth edition of International Conference on Wireless Networks & Embedded Systems was organized during March 20-21, 2015, by Chitkara University in association with British Columbia Institute of Technology, Canada and Deakin University, Australia. 

Conference attracted over 250 technical papers by students, academicians & researchers from India & abroad of which 94 papers were shortlisted for publishing in the conference e-proceedings & 97 papers were presented during the conference in four parallel tracks. WECON 2015 was attended by over 200 delegates that included students, faculty, researchers from India & Abroad as well as Industry Professionals.

In addition to technical paper presentations, WECON 2015 features lots of other intellectual activities that motivated & inspired delegates to keep exploring the innovative world of embedded systems & wireless networks-

  • Advanced Communication Lab Set-up - MoU signed between Chitkara University (CU) & Quadrant Televentures Ltd. (QTL) for the set-up of ‘Advanced Communications Lab’ at Chitkara University (CU). 
  • Launch of ‘Innovative Embedded Systems’ Projects Book -Book features 69 papers about innovative embedded projects done by students of Indian Engineering Institutions, It is edited by Dr. C.P. Ravikumar – Director Talent Development Texas Instruments India & Published by Chitkara University Publications
  • 8 Keynote Talks – Keynote Talks by leading researchers & industry professionals from India & Abroad. These talks highlight some of the interesting & hot areas for research in the field of embedded systems & wireless networks.
  • 5 hands-on workshops – Five hands-on workshops conducted on leading embedded technologies to give delegates, the practical experience.

WECON 2016

WECON 2016 was the 5th edition of international conference on Wireless Networks & Embedded Systems organized by Chitkara University. WECON was born is 2008 and it one of the most prominent technical conferences organized in North India. WECON 2016 was the first edition to garner IEEE technical sponsorship in addition to support from Deakin University, Australia and Texas Instruments India as Principal Patrons. WECON 2016 was also financially aided by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) and DRDO (Defense Research & Development Organization). EFY Magazine was a media partner and other industry collaborators were MathWorks India, Secure Meters Pvt. Ltd., Aricent India.

  • WECON 2016 was attended by academicians & researchers from all over India. It provided good opportunity to explore the possibility of inter institutional research collaborations. There were 60 papers from 12 different countries presented in the conference.
  • WECON 2016 was attended by researchers from around the globe; it provided a great opportunity to learn each other culture and understand research challenges and opportunities across borders.
  • WECON 2016 attendees were a good mix of industry and academia. Tremendous platform to explore industry academia collaboration.
  • WECON 2016 had a great team of 54 reviewers, provided a great platform for budding researchers in getting reviews for their research work.
  • Each of the 5 WECON 2016 tracks were chaired by 3 session chairs who were experts in their areas. It was a great opportunity for the researchers to get reviews and feedback about the work they were doing.
  • WECON 2016 featured 2 pre-conference hands-on workshops on cutting edge Texas Instruments Technologies and was attended by 40 faculty of 13 different institutions and the trainers were the experts from Industry. It provided excellent opportunity for knowledge sharing.
  • Conference proceedings was published by IEEE on IEEE Xplore. 

WECON 2018

The 6th edition of the conference was held on November 16-17, 2018, and was organized with technical sponsorship from IEEE. The proceeding of the conference was published by IEEE on IEEE Xplore. The conference was organized in collaboration with Applied Materials, NXP Semiconductors, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Heriot Watt University (Malaysia) and Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

  • Mr. Sanjay Gupta – Vice President and Country Head, NXP Semiconductors, India, delivered the inaugural address.  
  • Mr. Ashwini Aggarwal – Director (Govt. Affairs), Applied Materials, India, delivered a keynote address. 
  • Executive Committee of IEEE Delhi Section attended the conference and organized their 5th IEEE Delhi Section Executive Council Meeting on the sidelines of the conference.  
  • Dr. M.L. Dennis Wong – Deputy Provost, Heriot Watt University, Malaysia, delivered an invited talk. 
  • Mr. H.S. Jatana – SCL Mohali and Mr. Vivek Tripathi – STMicroelectronics conducted tutorials on Analog Chip Design and Data Converters, respectively. 

WECON 2022

For all these years the focus of WECON has only been restricted to the state-of-the-art work in Wireless Networks and Embedded Systems domains. However, today there are many other fascinating technology areas that have been growing very rapidly and are attracting the interest of researchers worldwide. Therefore, after much deliberation it was decided to broaden the spectrum of WECON to include more contemporary technology areas in its ambit, and the conference has been renamed as World Engineering Conference on Contemporary Technologies - WECONTM . WECON 2022 was organized on May 20-21, 2022 and it was attended by over 200 delegates. 

  • The conference featured 50 Paper Presentations in 5 Parallel Tracks, 4 Keynote Talks, and 9 Invited Talks.
  • The accepted papers have been published by Elsevier in the Materials Today Proceedings.
  • The inauguration ceremony was marked by two insightful keynote addresses by Dr. Pradeep K. Rohatgi – Director, Center for Composites and Advanced Materials Manufacture, UWM, USA, and Dr. Ashwini K Aggarwal - Director, Government Affairs, AMAT Inc., New Delhi, India.
  • Additionally, Day 1 of the conference witnessed paper presentations in two parallel tracks and four invited talks by Prof. Dr. Satyabrata Jit (IIT BHU), Prof. Dr. Angsuman Sarkar (KGEC, West Bengal), Dr. Govind Gupta (CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi) and Dr. Arpan Deyasi (RCC, West Bengal).
  • On Day 2, two keynote talks were organized that were delivered by Prof. Dr. R.S. Gupta (MAIT, New Delhi) and Mr. P Rajagopalan (Marvell Technology, Singapore).
  • Day 2 also witnessed five invited talks by Prof. Dr. Rajesh Khanna (Thapar Univ., Punjab), Prof. Dr. Rishu Chaujar (DTU), Dr. Harsupreet Kaur (University of Delhi), Dr. Sudhanshu Singh (Amity University, Rajasthan), and Dr. Manash Chanda (Meghnad Saha Inst. Of Tech., Kolkata).
