Chitkara School of Health Sciences has initiated a 4-Year full-time Bachelor of Optometry. The training methodology provides integrated inputs which help to develop a high degree of conceptual skills, analytical skills and quality technical knowledge base among aspirants and prepares them for a bright future in the eye-care Industry.
Chitkara School of Health Sciences has offers a 4-year full-time educational program in Optometry which deals with comprehensive eye examination, clinical specialties, diagnostics, and management of diseases and disorders of the visual system.
This program is envisaged to develop and train students to perform a comprehensive eye examination and enables students to become competent in providing services as an optometrist at multi-specialty health care hospital, tertiary eye care hospital, specialty eye clinics such as contact lens clinic, binocular vision and vision therapy clinic, low vision clinic and visual rehabilitation centres. Optometrists can also serve at various multinational vision eye care companies.
During the course, students also get integrated into research program and have an opportunity to participate in various national-level community-based eye camps, eye screenings, clinical visits as well as industrial visits.

Career Prospects
After successfully completing the Bachelor of Optometry program, students will have the opportunity to pursue a Master of Master in Optometry under the Fellowship program. While pursuing the Master’s program, they will also be eligible for a stipend of approximately Rs. 30,000 per month.
Our 4-year optometry program is designed to provide you with all the theoretical, practical knowledge, and clinical skills to become competent and well-qualified optometrists. Optometrists not only dispense spectacles and contact lenses but also play a major role in diagnosing refractive error, evaluation of the anterior and posterior ocular health and provide advanced eye care facilities by screening various ocular signs which may need medical attention. Optometrist also treats the patients who have problems in the area of low vision, binocular vision, and those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism, and special care.
Get a solid base with 3 years of intensive learning on campus and further build on this solid foundation through 1 year of internship. Throughout the course, you’ll attend small-group sessions to help you develop transferable skills to support your learning. You'll become familiar with the profession of optometry in India and abroad, enabling you to become a well-developed practitioner of the future.

Optometrists usually work in eye hospitals, clinics and optical outlets or with multinational vision care companies. You may also specialise in different types of specialty practices (Binocular Vision, Contact Lens, Low Vision). After gaining experience in a private establishment or with a lens manufacturer, you can open your own practice. You will be surprised to know that optometry features among the top 10 income-earning professions in the US.
