Chandigarh is connected by air to major Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. The Chandigarh Airport, soon to become Chandigarh International Airport, is just 11 km away from the city center in Sector 17.
The city is conveniently located within motorable distance from several major cities in north India. National Highways 21 and 22 run through the city, and excellent road conditions with pleasant views on either side of the road offer a pleasant drive. It is approximately 250 km north of New Delhi and takes nearly five hours for the journey.
Chandigarh is linked with the rest of the country with an effective rail network. Important trains such as the Shatabdi Express and the Himalayan Queen provide connections with New Delhi daily. There are also trains to other important cities such as Mumbai and Kolkata. The Chandigarh railway station is about 8 km from the city center in Sector 17.
