Intellectual property (IP) is a right, which refers to an restricted ownership on varieties of intangible assets, such as designs, discoveries, inventions, etc. recognized under the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) law. Under the TRIPS agreement, some of the most common types of intellectual property rights are copyright, trademarks, patents and industrial design, etc. Usefulness for this as regard to students and researchers was focused on during a workshop that was organized on patents at Chitkara University.

The workshop included a series of lectures by eminent experts in this field followed by a session for demonstration on patent filing. Experts guided the faculty/student to file patent applications of their innovation. They gave simple examples to make the students derive most out of the workshop.
