WECON 2018 successfully conducted at Chitkara University
The 6th edition of International Conference on Wireless networks and Embedded systems (WECON 2018) was conducted at Chitkara University, Punjab campus, on November 16- 17, 2018.
WECON 2018, which was technically sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE conference no. 44297) and supported by Applied Materials, NXP Semiconductors, Indian Space Research Organization, Heriot-Watt University (Malaysia) & Indian Semiconductor Association drew a participation of about 150 attendees. Keynote talks by Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Country Head, NXP semiconductors and Mr. Ashwini Aggarwal, Applied Materials, were the main highlights of the inaugural event which was well attended by around 300 attendees in form of WECON delegates, faculty members and students. Inaugural was further graced by many other distinguished guests like Prof. Dennis Wong, Deputy Pro Vost, Harriot Watt University, Malaysia, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Prof. Abdul Ansari, Vice Chair, IEEE Delhi section, Prof. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, Secretary, IEEE Delhi section, Prof. Jaspreet Dhanoa, Treasurer, IEEE Delhi section, Dr. Archana Mantri, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Dr. H S Jatana and Mr Rajesh Srivastava from Semiconductor Complex Limited, Mohali, Mr. Hitesh Garg, Site Lead (Bangalore), NXP Semiconductors, Mr. Bedanta Choudhary from NXP Semiconductors and Dr. Jagdish Raheja from CEERI Pilani.
Mr. Sanjay Gupta in his keynote address on “Autonomous Vehicles for future” highlighted the changing paradigms of technological aspects in the upcoming generation of vehicles. He insisted on the need of being innovative to keep up the pace with fast-changing technological trends and need for far more encroachment of technology in vehicles than ever in past.
Mr. AshwiniAggarwal talked about the semiconductor industry in India and its evolution. He emphasized the need for solving India specific problems using semiconductor technologies available at our disposal.
A brochure highlighting the tasks undertaken by VLSI Center of Excellence established at Chitkara University, under the directorship of Dr. Rajnish Sharma (Dean, Research) was also released by dignitaries.
Invited talk by Dr. Dennis Wong (Deputy Pro Vost, Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia) and tutorials by Dr. H S Jatana (Semiconductor Complex Limited, Mohali) and Mr. VivekTripathi from ST Microelectronics gathered a huge interest from all the participants.
While maintaining the high academic standards set by Chitkara University, only about 35 high-quality research papers were accepted from a total pool of more than 150 papers received from across the country, and internationally. All received papers were subjected to a double-blind review process and authors were provided detailed inputs to improve upon their manuscripts.
A total of 33 research papers were presented in four technological tracks named as ‘Alternate Energy Based Electronic Systems’, ‘Smart & Intelligent Electronics’, ‘Wireless Communications’ and ‘Wireless networks’. Research papers as below were adjudged as Best papers in their respective tracks:
Track 1 – Alternate Energy based Electronic Systems | Paper title ‘Investigation of Grating Parameters’ Impact on Spectra Characteristics of LPFG using Two-Layer Fiber Geometry’ authored by ShivenduParasharfrom Chitkara University, Himachal Pradesh.
Track 2 – Smart & Intelligent Electronics | Paper title ‘Analysis of Varied Dielectrics as Surface Passivation on AlGaN/GaN HEMT for Analog Applications’ authored by Jaya Madan from Chitkara University, Punjab.
Track 3 – Wireless Communications | Paper title ‘CPW-Fed UWB Reconfigurable Antenna (RF MEMS Switch) with X Band applications’ authored by Kuldeep Sharma from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
Track 4 – Wireless networks | Paper title ‘Experimental Evaluation of Performance of Underwater FreeSpace Optical Link in the Presence of Air Bubbles’ authored byMandeep SinghfromGuru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
