Family Literacy Day takes place on January 27 every year to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. The day is being celebrated since 1999.

In accordance with the theme of this year’s Family Literacy Day, “Lessons Outside”, the Office of Student Affairs, Chitkara University, Punjab, hosted a webinar for the students. The topic for the webinar was “Lessons outside books” and was delivered by Ms. Charanjeet Kaur, Student Counsellor, Chitkara University, Punjab.

As the world is rapidly developing today, it requires us to be well-equipped with more than just textual concepts. Keeping this in mind, the speaker shed light on the various techniques and methods with which one can keep herself or himself updated with all the latest information and news in the world. She took help of statistics, images and videos to explain to the students that how bookish knowledge is just not enough to get through life!

Ms. Charanjeet Kaur said, “One can involve the whole family and friends to enjoy reading more. This way one can easily share knowledge and also be motivated by each other.”

The lecture was keenly attended by the students and was thoroughly enjoyed. Students raised questions about some tips and tricks that can be used in order to gain knowledge in the outside world. The speaker interacted with the students and patiently answered all their queries.

On the occasion, Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, said, “We, at Chitkara University, motivate our students to dive into research and explore the concepts beyond the books and classrooms. The experienced faculty makes sure to provide the students with the best environment that will help them stay updated with the global requisite standards.”
