State Level Debate Competition on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for Engineering Students

Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, has launched the National Awareness Campaign to promote Energy conservation in the country. A State Level Debate Competition on“Energy Efficiency and Conservation” for Engineering students in State of Punjab was jointly organized by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) and Chitkara University with sponsorship of Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA).

The students deliberated on varied topics such as Energy Efficient Design of Buildings; Energy Efficiency in Electronics and I.T. Sector; Sustainable and Energy efficient Utilities in Industry and Energy Efficiency in Transport Sector and Energy Efficient Appliances, thereby highlighting positive and negative aspects of the Energy Efficiency and conservation techniques/measures.

Around 100 students from various Engineering colleges of Punjab enthusiastically participated in the Debate Competition. The valedictory session commenced with the presentations of the winners in various categories. Dr. Neelima Jerath, Executive Director, PSCST, gave a welcome note for all the delegates. Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab gave a presentation on “Activities of Chitkara University on Energy Conservation”. Chief Guest, Sh K.A.P. Sinha, Secretary, Science Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab addressed the students about various fields and emphasized the need of energy conservation. Sh M.P. Singh, Jt. Directory, PEDA apprised the participants about the initiatives of PEDA in bridging the gap between demand and supply. Vote of thanks was proposed by Wing Commander R.S. Gill, Vice President University Affairs, Chitkara University, Punjab. Energy efficient products and Energy Audit Instruments were also displayed in the exhibition to enlighten the participants and the students. PEDA also displayed Exhibition Van.
