Nurses Week Celebrations commenced at Chitkara College of Nursing with zeal and enthusiasm

Nurses Week Celebrations commenced at Chitkara College of Nursing on 8th May 2017 with zeal and enthusiasm. It started with Lamp lightening ceremony & Saraswati Vandana.

Ms. Swati, SNA Advisor opened the theme, “Nurses: A Voice to Lead. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” which lays great emphasis on achieving the 17 World Health Organization’s recommended goals- No poverty, Zero hunger, Good Health and well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, economic growth, Industry Innovation and infrastructure, required Inequalities, Sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace and justice strong institutions and partnerships for the goals.

The first day began with varied competitions for students including Poster Competition, Photography Competition, Candle decoration Competition, Anatomy Model Exhibition. Students’ creativity and innovation were much evident, which was acknowledged by Judges too.

The Second day of Nursing Week had most auspicious and much-awaited 5th “Oath Taking & Lamp lighting Ceremony” of B.Sc Nursing First Year students.

The ceremony commenced with the budding nurse’s marching on the stage and lighting of lamp followed by an oath taking ceremony. The students took an oath to uphold the values of the profession. A plethora of events was organised on Nurses Week theme- A Voice to Lead: Achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

The Third day of “Nurses Week Celebration” witnessed the plethora of events. Blood Donation Camp was organized by Chitkara College of Nursing with the unstinting support of NSS Department in collaboration with Civil Hospital, Rajpura.Total 70 units of blood were donated by Chitkara University. Throughout the morning, there was smiles and laughter all around- a true embodiment of what we believe in – selfless service with a smile.

In continuation with the tradition of preserving the environment and having eco-friendly activities, Chitkara College of Nursing & NSS Club organized “Tree Plantation Drive”. H’ble Dr. Madhu Chitakra Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Dr. Neeta Inamdar HOD European Study, Manipal University, Dr. Niyati Chitkara,Principal, Chitkara International School, Dr. Harmeet Kaur Principal, Chitkara College of Nursing, Ms. Neelam Verma, Program Co-ordinator NSS Department planted the trees.

Also workshop on Colostomy Care was successfully organized by CCN. The Workshop conducted by Ms. Taranpreet Kaur, Trained RN in critical illness and colostomy care. She introduced participants to the methods of colostomy care and demonstrates the procedure on the mannequin. She also shared her experience about various critical situations.

Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University in her addressed to the gathering & appreciated the nursing service education to the students. She further added that nursing has a pivotal role in health care and it is the most dedicated, committed and sincere profession who serve the humanity with compassion and empathy. She also released the Nursing anthem “Teri lau ki Roshni ko hum badhayenge “on this auspicious occasion.

Dr. Harmeet Kaur Principal Chitkara College of Nursing said that nurses’ week marks the professional contribution of the nurses. She encouraged students to flourish in life, to work hard and give quality care to patients. She motivated the students to practice their profession with honesty and dedication.
