NOVATE 2018 – Finding realistic solutions for real-life problems under EPICS and EPIP verticals
The 2nd Annual Innovation Challenge of Chitkara University – NOVATE 2018 concluded on 11th May 2018. An exclusive exposition consists of 93 teams from Chitkara University, Punjab competing to solve the identified problems of two verticals: EPICS and EPIP. There were 45 Problems identified from within University campuses under EPIP vertical and 22 problems from the society under EPICS vertical which were thrown as innovation challenges to students and faculty in June 2017. The students and faculty members worked relentlessly on finding innovative solutions to these problems and presented Proof of Concepts, Prototypes and Minimum Viable Products to eminent jury members. The jury comprises of Mr. Ashwini Agarwal, Director – Government Affairs, Applied Materials India Pvt. Ltd, Applied Materials, Mr. Manish Kumar, Senior Design Engineering Manager and Head, Security Firmware Innovation Center, NXP Semiconductors, Mr. Sanjiv Gupta, GM, Manufacturing, SML-ISUZU Ltd, Mr. Ramana Ramandeep, Mahindra Swaraj, Mr. Eashwer Athresh – Patent Associate, IIPRD, Ms. Shuchi Agarrwal, Founder & Managing Partner, IPNeeti.
“Portable vacuum pot” by Hari Verma, Manasvir Singh, Parth Bhardwaj & Sahil Kapil won the innovation challenge and bagged first prize of INR 25000, the innovative “Fruit plucking Device” from Hitesh Sharma, Harshit Chaudhary, Gaganpreet Singh & Harsimran stood Second and Android App based “Cafeteria Recharge system” made by Shubham Roy, Vikram Kumar and Vaibhav Hasija Stood Third winning INR 10000 and INR 5000.
The jury was so impressed by the solutions proposed by the students that they declared on spot Jury awards for Four more teams competing in NOVATE for INR 5000 each. The teams who won Jury Awards were “Shoe Shiner” from Ayush, Tarun, Vanshaj and Shivam, “Automatic Power Cut System” from Kaneka, Karan, Jatin & Jyoti, “Inter College Transportation System” by Uday, Vaibhav, Varun &Vedant, “Automated Pressing Machine” by Vikrant, Vinny, Vishakha, Yashassvi & Yashvi.
There was also a special mention for “Book Seeker”, Renting and selling of books using App made by Madhav Bansal & Ajay Sharma and “Hot wire foam cutter” by Nikhil, Nikita and Nitik.
There were also winners from Publishing research vertical of Engineering Exploration where students of Freshmen year who opted for publishing research vertical were recognized for their efforts and following teams were awarded for their research papers: The third prize worth Rs.2000 earned by Abhay Singh, Abhinav Shroff and Sahil Dhiman. second prize worth Rs.3000 achieved by Rajat Gupta, Danish Mohan, Gautam Sumitra and Shivankar Tiwari and the First prize worth Rs.5000 earned by Aditi Rihan, Aaditri Gupta and Ayushi Panwar.
