National Media Fest Udaan ’19 celebrates creativity, passion for journalistic profession

Chitkara School of Mass Communication, Chitkara University, Punjab; opened the 9th edition of National Media Fest – Udaan 2019 at the campus on November 8, 2019, with great zeal and energy. More than 200 students from 15 institutes in India, participated in the much-awaited annual fest with a plethora of media-related events and competitions lined-up to celebrate creativity and shared passion for journalistic profession and endeavours.

Udaan 2019 – National Media Fest was declared open by Dr. S. C. Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, Punjab, at the campus. The Media Fest had an impressive line-up of a variety of academic activities, quizzes, and competitions covering all facets of fun and learning – and is aimed to provide budding actors, orators, filmmakers, photographers and journalists, a platform to showcase their talent and win commendations. Major event categories include, Mobile Journalism, Frame Box, Layout Mania, RJ Hunt, MisMosh, Self’i’, Taza Khabar, Aditivity, Catch The Glimpse, News Flash, Scribble Pad, Tickle Your Brain and Tooncature. Distinguished and successful alumni of Chitkara School of Mass Communication – Ms. Megha Kumari, Mr. Varun Khokhar, Mr. Vivek Sharma and Ms. Himani Gupta, were invited to judge the various events, along with prominent media professionals and experts in the field.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University; said, “Media has become an indispensable part of our lives – from dusk to dawn we are surrounded and chased by the media in one way or the other. Thus, with its growing prominence in our life, it is the responsibility of the students to uphold the values of the profession – and that can only be possible if the students are allowed to implement theories into real-life situations. The fest provides a platform to the media students to learn and exchange ideas – to differentiate right from wrong.” She added, “Udaan celebrates shared passion for journalistic profession and endeavours, and reiterated the importance of maintaining ethical standards and sanctity of the profession.”

Udaan 2019 witnessed a huge number of participants across all its competitions and platforms of opportunity, to reach out and express themselves, from prominent universities and colleges. The valedictory ceremony was held at the end of the day where Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, presented trophies & prizes to the winners. First prize winners – Doaba College Jalandhar (Catch The Glimpse, Layout Mania, Frame Box); Central University, Bathinda (News Flash); Doaba College, Jalandhar (Aditivity); CAMS Punjabi University (Documentary); Shoolini University (Tickle Your Brain); IMCMT, Kurukshetra University (Curtain Call); Punjabi University (Mismosh); IMCMT, Kurukshetra University (MOJO); and Chandigarh University (Scribble Pad, RJ Hunt, Taza Khabar, Tooncature, Self‘I’). The Overall Trophy went to Chandigarh University. The unique feature in this year’s edition was that all the events were broadcast live, leaving multiple impressions & images in the minds of the audiences.

Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, Dean, Chitkara School of Mass Communication; congratulated the winning teams and lauded the efforts of BAJMC and MAJMC final year students of Chitkara University for making the Media Fest a grand success.
