Lohri celebrations at Chitkara University
To mark the passing of the winter solstice and welcome the longer days, Lohri was celebrated with gusto at Chitkara Campus.
Lohri is one of India’s main festivals to be celebrated with great pomp and energy across different regions of the country in January. In North India, and predominantly Punjab, this harvesting festival begins the year’s festivities with a tribute to the farmers for their hard toil and labor that enables us to live prosperous lives.
The celebrations commenced with the ignition of the holy bonfire and offering of food items by Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University along with Dr. Archana Mantri, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab. The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, and Brig. Dr. P.S. Siwach, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Administration. The celebration was attended by the Deans and Directors of various departments and faculty and staff members along with students.
As no celebration is complete without our traditional dances of Bhangra and Giddha, the staff and students had a gala time dancing to the beats of dhol around the warm bonfire as they relished on groundnuts, popcorn and sweets. Moreover, the Bhangra Regiment put up an electrifying performance which set the mood and the celebratory frenzy was joined by all the dignitaries. The students also sang the traditional folk songs which usher in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara extended greetings to everyone present at the occasion as the event ended with prayers and wishes for an amazing new year!
