Freedom in the mind, faith in the words, Pride in our hearts & memories in our souls… Tricolor fluttered high in the lush green Chitkara University campus, as Chitkara family gathered to celebrate the country’s 73rd Independence Day, on August 15, 2019. Patriotic emotions ran high as Chitkara family dressed in tricolors of the National Flag chanted ‘Jai Hind’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ and sang the National Anthem. Everyone’s eye blazed with pride and happiness with the Tricolor flying high.

Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University; unfurled the National Flag to the melodious tunes of the National Anthem. Addressing all present at the occasion, she shared her thoughts that the young generation should consider themselves very fortunate that they are born on the land of an independent India, – and have the freedom to choose, freedom to dream and freedom to live! “It’s really important that we respect our Independence and add glory to our nation,” she said. She advised the students to grow as a responsible citizen and “always stand for what you believe in, stand for what is right and stand for what you desire”.

Continuing the celebrations, Drills were presented by three contingents, a pair of doves and Tricolor balloons were released in the air to mark peace, followed by a mélange of splendid cultural performances which created an atmosphere of national pride on the premises. The program was beautifully coordinated with enactments, speeches, patriotic songs, choreography and dance, enlightening the contribution of unsung heroes of the Indian freedom struggle and their vision of Independence. Everyone in the audience was left spellbound.

The celebrations drew to a close with a special ‘Plantation Drive’ carried out to take forward Chitkara University’s ‘green legacy’ on the occasion of Independence Day. Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab; Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, Punjab; along with Deans & Directors of various departments, joined hands to ‘plant the seed for a greener future’.

The program concluded on a high crescendo with sweets and snacks distribution.
