Gurleen Kaur, our B. Pharmacy student adjudged the first runner-up Miss India Khadi-2017. Despite khadi being the most sought-after fabric in erstwhile India, it has lost its luster somewhere and to revive its magic, the contest was organized. The aim of the event was also to maintain a balance between tradition and modernity. Modernity cannot be overlooked for a nation to proper globally and this is what Gurleen also had in mind when she decided to be a part of the event. The event also promoted the fabric and gave it an impetus to sustain itself.

Earlier, she won Miss India Khadi – Himachal Pradesh on July 30. According to Pritmohider Singh, Gurleen’s father, from 22 states, three girls were selected. The contestants were wearing khadi clothes because it was an initiative to promote khadi.
