Final Year Architecture students visit Amritsar for learning conservation practice
Our final year students from Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture visited Amritsar on March 2 and 3, 2015, in order to take a glimpse of the detailed historical significance the place holds.
The students visited three places of on-site conservation work, which included the Rambagh palace, Town hall and Saragarhi Gurudwara. Namita Jaspal, an eminent art restoration expert showed her ongoing work in some sections of the Golden Temple and told the students about the techniques of restoration of historic artwork.
It was a highly educational visit and the students learned various fundamentals and techniques of conservation practice. In addition, the group visited Jallianwala Bagh and took part in a heritage walk through the lanes of Amritsar understanding the rich cultural heritage and the complexities of historic areas. Architecture derives a major chunk of its basis from history and that is why architects undergo various field trips and visits at historical places. This tour was organized by Ar. Niyati Jigyasu under the subject of Architectural conservation. Ar. Antara Nandy, faculty with CSPA, was also a part of the tour.
