E-Pedicab designed by second-year students of Chitkara University won them a series of awards. The students, Shivam Sahni, Divyam Dewan, Abhishek Singla, Mrinali Sharma, Rohit Raheja have got laurels with their new innovation E-Pedicab 2015.

The team bagged first position at Tech Mahotsav in Punjab Engineering College, second at Aranya held in Thapar University, first position at TechXpo and first at Innovations held recently at Chitkara University.

Novelty, which defines the new revolution in trishaws and provides vital application in the basic public transport of India, is appreciated by a panel of foreign judges/guests and attendants.

The innovation has been recently patented on Shivam Sahni’s name under the patent act, 1970. The young innovators are modifying the product and trying to make it a part of the transport sector.

The present invention generally relates to the field of vehicle design engineering and more specifically to a human driven rickshaw or pedicab. The wheels are arranged in a diamond pattern. Instead of two wheels in front and two at back, the present invention features individual wheels at the front and rear, which steered in opposite directions to enhance maneuverability (a controlled change in the movement of vehicle).

The diamond shaped geometry allows the chassis to form a planar, simple structure, small footprint, can accordingly increase the space and can greatly simplify the production process, costs reduction, weight, but also facilitate manufacturing quality control. In addition to these features the rickshaw can be operated by dual mechanism, either by motor or by manual paddling.
