Dr Sangeeta Pant, Dean, CCE conducts induction training programme at SCERT Chandigarh
Dr Sangeeta Pant, Dean Chitkara College of Education for Women was invited as the “Resource Person” for Induction Training Programme.
The programme was organized by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), U.T. Chandigarh for around 88 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) in Hindi, Punjabi, Fine Arts and Social sciences.
In her session, Dr Pant talked about ‘Content and Language Integrated Learning’ (CLIL). Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a competence-based teaching approach that is gaining ground in European education systems. The idea is to teach both the subject and the language, and is captured in the phrase “using language to learn, learning to use language”.
“CLIL as an innovative pedagogical practice can be introduced in the Indian education system to preserve national multilingualism,” said Dr Pant.
She also shared insights with the young teachers about the challenges faced by the teachers today and how to tackle them. She discussed what it entails to have the right mix of content and language integration for the learning to be enriching. She shared that CLIL refers to situations where subjects, or parts of subjects, are taught through a foreign language with dual-focused aims, namely the learning of content and the simultaneous learning of a foreign language. However, CLIL teaching has been practiced for many years.
Teachers can enhance their methodology of imparting knowledge by using such techniques, Dr Pant added.
