Dr. Madhu Chitkara Leads Panel on Sustainable Education and SDGs
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, took the stage as a panelist at the “Building a Sustainable Future: Incorporating SDGs into School Education” event, organised by Maple Bear. The discussion centered around the crucial role of integrating the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into education. Dr. Chitkara emphasised that these global objectives, adopted by 193 UN member states, should be ingrained in all aspects of school activities to drive meaningful change.
Dr. Madhu Chitkara passionately elaborated on Chitkara University’s unwavering commitment to the SDGs, noting that the institution has consistently aligned itself with these global goals. She highlighted the university’s initiatives, including the adoption of 10 villages across two states, which has been an ongoing endeavour for over two decades. These efforts have empowered local communities through sustainable development, working toward self-reliance and better livelihoods. Additionally, Chitkara University’s eco-friendly measures, such as sewage recycling and rainwater harvesting, have gained recognition from both the Central and State Governments for their impact and innovation.
During the event, Dr. Madhu Chitkara called for the urgent need to embed the SDGs into school curricula, stating that early awareness and education about global challenges are pivotal in shaping the next generation’s mindset. She expressed confidence in Generation Z’s commitment to sustainability, citing their energy and passion as essential to achieving a brighter, more sustainable future.
The event underscored the importance of a collective approach in addressing sustainability, particularly in educational institutions, which play a vital role in fostering responsible global citizens.
