World Environment Day is an annual observance of the United Nations. Celebrated on June 5th every year, it aims to increase awareness and encourage countries to take action to protect our natural environment and ecosystems. Since its inception in 1974, World Environment Day has grown into a worldwide recognised platform for raising environmental issues such as marine pollution, global warming, wildlife crime, and ocean acidification. Every year, over 143 countries take part in the event. This year’s theme for World Environment Day is restoring devastated ecosystems. We are witnessing an unprecedented loss of ecosystems, depriving the world of forests, peatlands, wildlife habitats, and carbon sinks. It’s important we ponder upon this issue as all of us are dependent on healthy ecosystems for survival. Experts at the United Nations believe we’ve lost key ecosystems and created an ideal environment for viruses to spread in the context of COVID-19. Furthermore, this day provides each individual with a vast platform to effect constructive change.

Chitkara University and The Art of Living recently collaborated for a 21 Day Meditation Program which was organised for the Chitkara fraternity. Chitkara University is committed towards the betterment of society and the environment.
