Our Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Archana Mantri, went on to present a case study highlighting our engineering curriculum with impetus on EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Services) at Purdue University, Indiana, USA.

To delve further, the Engineering Projects in Community Service program, known as EPICS, is a national award-winning social entrepreneurship program. Teams design, build and deploy systems to solve engineering-based problems for charities, schools and other not-for-profit organizations. Dr Mantri enhanced upon the point that after all it is time that our students don’t just graduate but they become graduates in order to make a difference and tackle real-world problems today.

Innovative technology-based approach to very old problems is used by EPICS program. Some of the projects under this initiative are access to clean drinking water, providing nutritious food in remote villages. We do not take an off-the-shelf solution and others. Dr Mantri stated how the initiative is making a difference in a country like India where the magnitude of such problems is much more as compared to many other countries.

The project teams address needs in the Phoenix metropolitan area and around the world in places like Vietnam, South Africa and India.

After Dr Mantri finished her presentation, Professor Eckhard Groll, Associate Dean, UG & G education at Purdue University in his speech while highlighting the value of Community Based Projects and EPICS in building responsible professionals, singled out Chitkara University twice in his speech because of the extraordinary efforts that we have put in building the engineering curriculum.

Way to go Dr Archana Mantri.
