CSPA faculty members participated in PECBC Training Programmes 2017
Eight faculty members from Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture participated in one-day capacity Building Workshop on Punjab Energy Conservation Building Codes (PECBC) organized by Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Chandigarh Punjab Chapter, National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR), Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code (PECBC) became mandatory since June 2016 as notified by the Government of Punjab in the official Gazette under clause (a) of Section 15 of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 (52 of 2001). They pertain to all buildings/ building complexes such as offices, hotels, shopping complexes, Group housing complexes, private hospitals and others that are not primarily for industrial i.e. manufacturing use.
Punjab Government is planning to empanel 120 architects as PECBC experts in the next year, and hence the training workshop targets faculty from Schools of Architecture in Punjab and Practising architects. It is believed that the students of architecture must learn about energy efficient buildings and their legal compliance at the school level to develop a full understanding of the Energy Efficiency Codes. The master Trainer for the workshop, Ar. Abdullah Nissar Siddiqui, is a Project manager at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics at Jamia Millia Islamia Central University.
The workshop was attended by Associate Professor Preeti Pahwa and Assistant Professors Tanya Chawla, Tarun Gupta, Aarti Khokhar, Shruti Behera, Surbhi Modi, Bikramjit Mridha and Mandeep Kaur.
