Conference on ‘Knowledge Economy Partnership’ at Chitkara University
A two-day conference on ‘Knowledge Economy Partnership’ attended by seven universities from across the length and breadth of India as well as from Anglia Ruskin University, UK, started Chitkara University on Monday. The theme of the conference is employer engagement to inform and influence curriculum development.
In her inaugural address, Dr Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, underlined the importance of the conference in regard to curriculum development with an eye on the employability of the students, who walk out of Indian universities.
Besides Anglia Ruskin University, UK, the other participating universities include Mumbai University, Maharashtra, University of Calcutta, West Bengal, Amrita University, Kerala, Bharathiar University, Tamil Nadu, University of Mysore, Karnataka, and Chitkara University, Punjab. Also attending the conference are former alumni of Chitkara University who are now working in industry.
The focus during the two-day deliberations will be on how the industry inputs can be better reflected in the curriculums. This will not only make the curriculums industry relevant but also updated to meet the current needs of the country as well as the global market.
The conference is in pursuance of the vision underlined in the South Asia – Anglia Partnership (SAAP), which works together with universities in South Asia to collaborate, innovate and enhance student experience.
The main focus of the partnership is to provide a network for Universities to exchange knowledge, share best practice and collaborate to learn from each other. This collaboration and learning will focus on key aspects of the students experience namely the Curriculum development- looking at industrial collaboration in the processes involved in conceptualisation, design, content, approval, monitoring and review and the role that employer engagement can play in this process.
The focus of the conference, in which the second session was conducted on Tuesday talked about the curriculum industry relevant and stressed on meeting the current needs of the country as well as the global market. The participants would finalise the details of a project plan, which each member will take forward in their own University on returning from the workshop.
