Hyundai India Couture Week

In a remarkable opportunity that bridges education with industry experience, six students from the Department of Fashion Design at Chitkara Design School participated as backstage assistants and crew members at the prestigious Hyundai India Couture Week, held in New Delhi in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). This annual event is a cornerstone of the Indian fashion industry, showcasing the creations of the nation’s top designers and attracting an elite network of professionals.

The selected students—Ritika Singh, Tamana, Deepali Matiar, Paramjeet Kaur, Sifatpreet Kaur, and Rukmeen Kaur—immersed themselves in the dynamic and fast-paced environment of one of the most coveted events in the fashion calendar. Their roles as backstage assistants were crucial in ensuring the smooth execution of the event, which is known for its high standards of creativity and professionalism. The students were involved in a variety of tasks, from assisting models with quick outfit changes to organising garments and accessories, managing logistics, and maintaining the overall flow of the show.

This hands-on experience provided the students with an in-depth understanding of the intricacies involved in staging a large-scale fashion show. They gained firsthand exposure to the meticulous planning and coordination required to bring a designer’s vision to life, observing how elements such as lighting, music, choreography, and garment styling come together to create a cohesive and visually stunning presentation. The experience not only honed their technical skills but also gave them valuable insights into the demands and challenges of working in the fashion industry.

Beyond the logistical aspects, the students had the rare opportunity to interact with some of the industry’s most respected figures, including the legendary designer JJ Valaya. Known for his unique ability to blend Indian heritage with contemporary design, JJ Valaya’s presence and guidance left a lasting impression on the students, inspiring them to explore new creative avenues in their own work.

This experience at Hyundai India Couture Week marks a significant milestone in the students’ educational journey, offering them a glimpse into the professional world they aspire to join. It also reflects Chitkara University’s commitment to providing its students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom, ensuring they are well-prepared to enter the competitive fashion industry.

As the event concluded, the students returned with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, eager to apply what they learnt to their future projects. The skills and experiences they gained during this event will undoubtedly serve as a strong foundation for their careers in fashion, as they continue to innovate and contribute to the industry.
