Chitkara University Students Bag 10 Top Slots in Global Animation Competition

Chitkara University becomes the first Indian University with 10 animation students making it to the ‘Global Top 50’ in the famed 11Second Club Competition.

Adding one more feather to its cap, Chitkara University has become the first Indian University to have 10 of its First-year students from Bachelor’s program in Animation feature in ‘Global Top 50’ in the famed 11Second Club competition. 11Second Club is a monthly character animation competition, which attracts participation from animators globally, including professional studio animators. With intense competition and over 130,000 members, the 11Second Club has emerged as the ace competition for showcasing animation prowess for freelance and budding animators around the world. The top entries of 11Second Club competitions get mentorship support from the community of professional and world-class animators.

The students who have brought Chitkara Design School laurels by acing the May’20 edition of 11Second Club are Lalit (#8), Aditya Punj (#12), Pratham Bajaj (#14), Harpreet Singh (#22), Nikhil Bhardwaj (#25), Dabia Gujral (#25), Arshdeep Singh (#27), Shobhit Sharma (#34), Naitik Gupta (# 49), Arvind (#50). All the winners are the first-year students of B.Sc. (Animation) program at Chitkara Design School.

During the course, the animation students at the Chitkara Design School are exposed to ins and outs of designing, painting, model making, texture design, animation, technical aspects of lighting, composite making, and even editing films. In addition, they receive numerous opportunities to engage in theoretical and practical exercises for honing their Artistic ability, Storytelling ability, Technical skills/ Software knowledge, and creating cinematic Special effects, thus making them industry-ready.

As per the industry reports, the animation and VFX industry in India is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 17.2 per cent over 2017–21 to reach a size of INR131.7 billion, driven by a steady 9.5 per cent growth in animation and a 25 per cent growth in the VFX segment. The increased consumption of local IP/domestic content is likely to be the key growth driver for the animation industry, and the expected increase in consumption of digital through OTT and mobile platforms for entertainment and education will add to the growing demand for localised content.
