Chitkara University Stages Thought-Provoking Street Play on Mental Health Day
On World Mental Health Day, Chitkara University, through its National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with the Student Counselling Centre, brought attention to the importance of mental well-being by staging a compelling Nukkad Natak (street play). The performance, centered around the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals battling mental health issues in today’s demanding world.
The street play, brought to life by the passionate NSS volunteers, drew the audience into an emotional and thought-provoking narrative. Through vivid scenes and heartfelt performances, the actors depicted the harsh realities of those struggling with mental health challenges, highlighting the immense pressures people face in their daily lives. The play not only captured the turmoil of those affected but also conveyed a powerful message of resilience and hope. It stressed the importance of seeking professional help and how counselling can guide individuals toward healing.
Wearing symbolic white scarves, the volunteers portrayed the path from despair to recovery, emphasising that mental health concerns affect everyone, regardless of age, background, or social status. The performance encouraged the audience to not only be aware of their own mental health but to become active supporters of others, recognising early signs of distress in friends, family, and peers.
As the play concluded, the atmosphere resonated with a sense of solidarity and responsibility. Chitkara University’s initiative underscored the message that mental health is everyone’s responsibility, and every individual can play a role in fostering a supportive environment. The event not only brought attention to the importance of professional care but also reinforced the idea that a community united in compassion can make a significant difference in promoting mental well-being.
