Chitkara University Sports Competition 2024 a Showcase of Talent and Sportsmanship

The Faculty of Economics at Chitkara Business School, Chitkara University, Punjab, recently hosted the 2024 University Sports Competition. This dynamic event, part of the “University Connect Hub,” was organised under the auspices of the Centre for Rural Outreach and Sustainable Development in collaboration with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, Government of India.

The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests. Chief Guest Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar and Officiating Vice-Chancellor of Chitkara University, Punjab, along with Prof. Sandhir Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara Business School, Sqn. Ldr. Dr. Rina Angel, Director of Administration, Chitkara University, Punjab, Col. Bikram Ahluwalia, Director of Human Resources, CBS, Dr. Subodh Saluja, Associate Professor and Program Head of Retail Management, CBS, Prof. Keerti B. Pradhan, Dean of Healthcare and Management, CBS, Dr. Harinderpal Singh, Director of University Sports Board, Sundeep Singh, Deputy Registrar, CBS, and Babita Paswan, Program Manager, CBS, all lent their support and enthusiasm to the event. Additionally, the event was honoured by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Mr. Aditya Johar, Acquisition Leader at Decathlon Sports India.

The competition saw an electrifying atmosphere as students from various disciplines displayed their athletic prowess, in alignment with the “Fit India Movement,” spearheaded by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Esteemed coaches from the Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, India – Shri Bhagwant Singh, Shri Varinder Gulati, and Shri Suresh Siani—were present to inspire and motivate the participants.

The sporting events included Badminton, Carrom, Pool Table, and Arm Wrestling, with participants demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship. The winners of the competition are as follows:

Badminton (Men):

• 1st Place: Saurav Kaushik (Chitkara School of Liberal Arts)
• Runner-up: Divit Kumar Sahni (BA (Hons) Economics with Data Science)

Badminton (Women):

• 1st Place: Tamanna Thakur (BA (Hons) Economics with Data Science)
• Runner-up: Bhuvi Anand (Chitkara School of Liberal Arts)

Carrom:

• 1st Place: Sheenu Rani (BA (Hons) Economics with Data Science)
• Runner-up: Dev Garg (BBA Professional)

Pool Table:

• 1st Place: Danish (BA (Hons) Economics with Data Science)
• Runner-up: Saurav Kaushik (Chitkara School of Liberal Arts)

Arm Wrestling:

• 1st Place: Aaryamaan
• Runner-up: Gopal Kishan Anand (BA (Hons) Economics with Data Science)

The event not only highlighted the importance of physical fitness but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition among students. Participants and attendees were inspired by the sportsmanship and dedication on display, underscoring the university’s commitment to holistic development.
