Chitkara University Shines at the 5th International Sustainability Education Conference
Dr. Vani Parwez, Assistant Professor & Outreach Synergist at Chitkara College of Education, Chitkara University, was invited as a distinguished delegate by The Climate Reality Project India and South Asia to participate in the 5th International Conference on Sustainability Education. Accompanying her was the university’s research scholar, Shikha Bharti Razdan, whose groundbreaking research focuses on global warming in education. The prestigious conference took place in New Delhi on September 19th and 20th, 2023.
The overarching theme of the conference, ‘Educating for Climate Action and Sustainability,’ brought together luminaries in the field of sustainability education. Organised by the Mobius Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO, UNEP, Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE, Copenhagen), The Climate Reality Project India and South Asia (TCRP), The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), WWF India, and several other renowned environmental organizations, the event aimed to address the pressing need for transformative education in the face of global climate challenges.
Dr. Vani Parwez, representing Chitkara University, played a pivotal role in the conference. During her address to the august gathering, she highlighted Chitkara University’s remarkable green initiatives and underscored the fundamental role of education in catalysing urgent climate action. Notably, she shared the university’s prestigious achievement of holding platinum status as a green campus, conferred by The Climate Reality Project.
Dr. Parwez’s presentation emphasised the significance of embedding sustainability practices within educational institutions and underscored the imperative role universities must play in fostering environmental consciousness among students. Her insightful discourse resonated with the conference’s central theme, advocating for a holistic approach to sustainability education that extends beyond theoretical knowledge to practical implementation.
