In celebration of World Environment Day, Chitkara University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Prem Jain Memorial Trust (PJMT). This strategic partnership underscores the university’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in fashion design education.

The MoU was formalised by Payal Jain, Founder Trustee of PJMT and a distinguished fashion designer, alongside Prof. (Dr.) Vaibbhavi Pruthviraj Ranavaade, Dean of Fashion Design at Chitkara Design School. The event was further honoured by the presence of Shivani Saini, Director of Career Advancement Services at Chitkara University, and Prof. Sanjay Razora, Head of the Department of Fashion Design at Chitkara Design School.

This collaboration aims to foster the exchange of cutting-edge research and advancements in sustainability, directly benefiting students and stakeholders involved in environmental and sustainable practices. The initiative will significantly bolster the department’s FASH CO-LAB project, which is dedicated to integrating sustainable methodologies and innovative practices within the fashion industry.

As part of this collaboration, Payal Jain will join the Board of Studies for the B.Des. Fashion Design Program at Chitkara Design School. Her inclusion will bring invaluable expertise and industry insights, enriching the curriculum and providing students with direct access to pioneering developments in sustainable fashion.

Dr. Vaibbhavi Pruthviraj Ranavaade expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This MoU represents a significant milestone in our journey towards embedding sustainability in our fashion design education. By partnering with PJMT, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead the industry towards a more sustainable future.”

Payal Jain echoed this sentiment, emphasising the importance of sustainable practices in fashion. “Sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity for the future of our planet. I am excited to collaborate with Chitkara University to inspire and mentor the next generation of fashion designers who will champion these values,” she said.

Shivani Saini highlighted the broader impact of this partnership on career advancement for students, noting that it would open up new avenues in the rapidly evolving field of sustainable fashion. Prof. Sanjay Razora added that the collaboration would enhance the department’s research capabilities and foster a culture of innovation among students.

This partnership is a testament to Chitkara University’s dedication to providing a holistic education that addresses global challenges. By aligning with PJMT, the university reinforces its commitment to sustainability, ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared to make significant contributions to the industry.

Chitkara University is excited about the possibilities this partnership will unlock. With a shared vision of sustainability and innovation, the collaboration with PJMT is set to transform fashion design education and practice.
