Published on March 22, 2017 | 2124 views

Chitkara University campus was abuzz with students dressed up as delegates from various countries, who discussed and debated the core issues that are rocking the globe these days! This was the scenario when Chitkara organized the Model United Nations Assembly at its Rajpura campus recently.

Ideate, Discover and Explore! The very ethos of Chitkara University is to nurture its knowledge seekers not only academically but to evolve them as thorough professionals to befit the global map.

Like many other efforts, Chitkara Model United Nations Society (MUN SOC) is yet another act in the pursuit of evolving Chitkarians as adept professionals and global citizens. Chitkara MUN SOC enjoys the pride of nearly sixty-five vibrant debaters, who on their feet, take to discourse on various global issues and not only exhibit high intellect but strongly reflect their sensibilities towards global citizenship with the dexterity as Diplomats.

Three burning agendas, mainly Protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity undertaken by UNHRC, Situation in the Middle East with special focus on the Israel-Palestine issue conducted by UNSC and Elimination of Racism, racial discrimination, Xenophobia and related intolerance discussed in UNGA were the center of attention for the delegates of the respective council.

The invigorating sessions involved airing of stimulating thoughts by all the delegates present and included vivid discussions. The debaters exhibited enthusiasm as they came face to face with actual workings of a MUN and learnt more about diplomacy, negotiation and lobbying skills.

The Draft Resolution passed by UNHRC was that the nations which criminalize LGBT community needs to demolish the laws and give them equal rights and opportunities. UNSC’s draft resolution was that Palestine should be formed into a totally separate state with special rights to refugees. Last but not the least, UNGA passed the resolution that there is a dire need to spread awareness against intolerance related to racism and laws should be made more rigid to punish the offenders.
