Chitkara University organizes a virtual opening ceremony of 3R Campaign 2030

An inaugural ceremony of 3R Campaign 2030 was organised by Chitkara University on February 18th, 2021. The 3R Campaign 2030 is a 10-year campaign organised by Chitkara University in the spirit of the United Nations Academic Impact objective that is, ‘Intellectual Social Responsibility to Protect and to Save the Villages of India From Plastic Waste’.

The campaign envisages to connect at least one academic institution from each state and further make the institutions adopt villages from their vicinity and replicate good sustainable practices which have been set as standard guidelines for achieving the target of plastic-free villages. The campaign aims to make at least 30 villages in India plastic-free.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, welcomed all the honourable dignitaries and talked about how Chitkara University is working on implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was graced by Senior UN diplomat Mr. Ramu Damodaran, the Deputy Director of UN as the Chief Guest, who was the chief guest for the event. Mr. Damodaran was highly impressed by the way Chitkara University is working on implementing SDGs through this project.

The guest of honour, Mr. Prabhjot Sodhi- Head of Circular Economy, UNDP India was delighted with our project. He said that the UNDP, India will extend assistance for Chitkara University’s project. Ms. Himani and Mr. Tathagata Ghosh from UNDP, India spoke about the importance of eradicating plastic waste from villages.

Prof. Harkiran Kaur spoke about global perspectives and how Chitkara University has grown over the years. Dr. Sandhir Sharma welcomed His Excellency Ramu Damodaran for his inaugural speech and Mr. Sumeer Walia presented the vote of thanks and moderated the session in a unique manner.

Asif Ayoob, the student youth ambassador from Chitkara Business School presented the work being done by Chitkara University in the adopted villages for the eradication of plastic.
