Ideate, Discover and Explore! The very ethos of Chitkara University is to nurture its knowledge seekers not only academically but to evolve them as thorough professionals to befit the global map.

It was a matter of great prestige and pride as Chitkara University, Punjab, hosted a three-day International MUN (7th edition) & first-ever ‘Climate Change Summit’ from January 11-13, 2019, under the aegis of Chitkara Model United Nations Society – MUNSOC.

We at Chitkara University believe in – Think Global, Act Local – and keeping this in mind the conference was ideated and devised for the youth of India – the future leaders who will become adept at challenging the orthodox and conformist views. The deliberations at the Summit were intense and wide-ranging, with the following agenda of the five committees that challenged the status-quo – Climate Change Summit – Discussing the Issue of Climate Change, AIPPM- Deliberating the Electoral Reforms, UNGA – Preventing and countering violent extremism and radicalism globally, Human Rights Council – Reformation of Conditions of POWs & Victims of Human Rights Violations, Mossad – Classified.

The invigorating sessions involved airing of stimulating thoughts by all the delegates present and included vivid discussions. The debaters exhibited enthusiasm as they came face to face with actual workings of a MUN and learnt more about diplomacy, negotiation and lobbying skills.

An event of this magnitude required a global luminary which we found in our keynote speaker, Mr. Harjeet Singh, Global Lead- Climate Change, Action Aid International. He discussed the highlight of our conference – Climate Change – which is a grave concern today and needs to be addressed at every platform. His insights were of particular importance since the issue of Climate Change was discussed threadbare from climate change to climate migration, and from climate action to climate finance.

In his much enlightening & illustrated address to the Gen Next and Millennials, Mr. Harjeet Singh said these kind of platforms are befitting to simulate for our youth to take on global challenges as it leads to thought-provoking discussion and deliberation with some concrete outcomes on the various matters related to climate change worldwide.

Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, said, “This event is yet another initiative of the University to develop exemplary debaters, fully equipped with high level of critical thinking & reasoning along with the sharp presence of mind and leadership skills.”

Dr Madhu & Mr Harjeet handed over Gavels to the Executive Boards to carry on responsibly such important tasks and positions.

Following were the winners from all the five committees:

AIPPM – Assassuddin Owaisi- Samman
CCS – TUVALU – Govind
UNGA – Iraq – Rohit
MOSSAD – Chief Analyst – Trishna Aryal
Best Videographer – Sarthak
Best Photographer – Abhishek
Best Caricaturist – Parneet

The conference was hugely successful as it witnessed stimulating and groundbreaking discussions that acted as a catalyst in the holistic development of the youth enabling them to truly evolve into leaders and global citizens of tomorrow. We achieved what Chitkara University’s MUN Society stands for – ‘Strive for Change’.
