Chitkara University organises a Poetry Competition to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti.

The Office of Student Affairs under the patronage of Chitkara University, Punjab organised an online POETRY competition on May 7th, 2021 to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti. The theme for the competition was ‘Depiction of Peace in the Eyes of the Youth’. In the poetry competition, the first position was secured by Sukhjot Kaur, a second year BCA student and Aditya, a second year ECSE student. The second position was secured by Shriya Sharma, a first year MRIT student and Vishal Sharma, a first year CSE student. The third position was secured by Bhuvan Sandal, a second year student of B.Des in Visual Communication.

In the Sketching/Cartooning competition, Sonu, a first year student of CSE and Prerna Jha, a second year student of Mechatronics secured the first position. While, the second position was secured by Nikita, a second year student of BAJMC and Priyanshi Sharma, a first year student of Bsc AHS MRIT. Shivani rana, a first year student of Bsc DTT and Jatin Rana, a first year student of CSE secured the third position. Aayushi Gupta, a first year CSE student bagged the first prize in Digital Art Competition and Lovepreet Kaur, a second year student of Physiotherapy bagged the second prize in the same. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of the students.

Celebrated across the globe on May 7th annually, the day marks the birth anniversary of the world-famous litterateur. It is celebrated on the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh. In remembrance and reverence for the polymath that Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was, cultural programmes and events are held during the course of the day. Back in 2011, the Government of India issued five rupee coins to mark and honour the 150th year of his birth. Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. After the publication of his celebrated collection of poetry, Geetanjali, he was conferred with this prestigious honour. The Nobel Committee According to the Nobel committee, Tagore was recognised for the prestigious prize “because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse, by which, with consummate skill, he has made his poetic thought, expressed in his own English words, a part of the literature of the West.”
