Department for Environmental Research

Chitkara University and the Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Government of Punjab, have entered into a landmark agreement to promote research and innovation in environmental sustainability. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, and Kanwardeep Singh, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Punjab. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to conduct joint studies and projects focused on wild flora and fauna, sustainable forestry, and agroforestry.

This strategic partnership will drive forward the “Friends to Forester” scheme and initiatives in carbon sequestration, along with active participation in the National Rural Livelihood Mission. A key aspect of the collaboration will be empowering women’s self-help groups in five villages, and fostering economic independence and sustainable practices at the grassroots level. These initiatives underscore a commitment to blending academic research with practical, community-based solutions.

Chitkara University students stand to gain significantly from this MoU through hands-on learning experiences. Internships and field trips organised in collaboration with the Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation will enhance their academic journey and career prospects. Additionally, joint supervision of thesis work and developing innovative practices and protocols, such as vermicompost production, will provide students with invaluable insights into sustainable environmental management.

The partnership also emphasises the joint pursuit of sustainable development goals, aiming to make a positive impact on both the environment and local communities. By working together, Chitkara University and the Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation will not only advance academic research but also contribute to the creation of sustainable environmental practices that can be implemented on a larger scale.
