Chitkara University joins ‘Fit India Movement’; organises live screening, takes pledge to promote healthy lifestyle

National Service Scheme of Chitkara University, Punjab; organised the live streaming event of ‘Fit India Movement’, which was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at New Delhi, on the occasion of National Sports Day, celebrated on August 29, 2019.

Chitkara University NSS Volunteers, students, faculty, deans & directors joined in to be a part of the event, which encouraged everyone to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives. Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar, Chitkara University, Punjab; Dr. Neelam Verma, Programme Coordinator, National Service Scheme; and NSS School Officers of various departments were also present at the live screening.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the much-anticipated nation-wide ‘Fit India Movement’ and urged citizens to make fitness a daily habit. He also remembered the contributions of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player. The aim of the movement is to encourage people to prioritize sports and fitness in their day-to-day lives.

Huge population of India is suffering from diabetes and hypertension. This is a big concern, but we have a ray of hope if we understand lifestyle diseases are caused by lifestyle disorder. The Prime Minister pointed out that the ‘Fit India movement’ was not simply a government campaign. He stressed that the issue of fitness should be a point of discussion in every household. PM Modi said, “Sports is directly related to fitness. Fitness is not just a word; it’s a necessity for a healthy lifestyle.”

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi praises the spirited performance presented by the performers and dancers which showcased the importance of staying fit and healthy through various physical activities. Cultural dance performances such as Bharatnatyam and Bhangra on the stage enthral the audience at the launch of the ‘Fit India Movement’. At the end of the event, PM Modi also administered ‘a fitness pledge’ to the people of the country.
