Chitkara University Granted Patent for System for Radio and Internet Broadcasting
Chitkara School of Mass Communication, Chitkara University has received a prestigious patent for its innovative ‘System for Radio and Internet Broadcasting,’ developed by a dedicated team led by Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, Dean of the Chitkara School of Mass Communication. The team, which included Dr. Pankaj Garg, Associate Professor, and Ranjit Singh Chopra, has aptly named the system ‘Social Radio’ for its focus on community engagement and information dissemination.
The ‘Social Radio’ system was conceptualised and brought to life during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognising the critical need for reliable communication channels, the team ensured that their Community Radio station remained fully operational around the clock. Leveraging both internet and terrestrial broadcasting modes, the team provided vital information on COVID-19 prevention, vaccination drives, and essential public health messages regarding mask-wearing, social distancing, and frequent handwashing.
This innovative broadcasting system became a crucial tool in the fight against the pandemic, enabling seamless communication between doctors, healthcare experts, and central and state officials with the general public. By maintaining continuous operations despite the constraints of limited resources, testing conditions, and stringent time constraints, the ‘Social Radio’ system proved instrumental in coordinating relief and medical efforts effectively.
