National Research Symposium - Chitkara University

“Research is a continuous process that takes both practice and time. Good researchers continuously ask themselves questions and evaluate where they are in the research process,” opined the guests. GITAM School of Architecture, Hyderabad, organized a two-day National Research Symposium for students to inculcate research in architecture at its campus. Prof. Jayashree Deshpande, Director, Council of Architecture Training and Research Centre, and Prof. Harveen Bhandari, Dean-Research & Scholastic Development, Chitkara University, Punjab, graced the event as chief guests. They emphasized that the research process is a continuous cycle, involving checking, re-checking, evaluating, analyzing, and repeating the entire process over and over again.

The research process enables writers to become subject matter experts and write publishable articles, comments, or case notes, they added. Prof. Jayashree gave guidance for simple steps to develop a sense of the question, start reading and discussing, putting together in your own words, and presenting your findings while responding to questions from the audience. She said that research symposiums are the need of the hour and advised bringing this knowledge to the fraternity in printed form.

Prof. Harveen briefed about the steps involved in a good paper presentation. The symposium was based on the theme ‘Architecture, Urbanism, and Built Environment,’ and it aimed to inculcate the practice of writing research papers by students during their architectural studies. Earlier, Prof. Sunil Kumar, Director, School of Architecture, felicitated the guests. Prof. Kurri Sravanthi, Convener, delivered the welcome note, and Dr. Souporni Paul, Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. Vibhuti Sachdev, Dean of Architecture, GSA, also participated in this event. About 15 students from across India presented research papers, and 13 students physically participated in this two-day symposium.
