Chitkara University Conducts a Tree Plantation Drive with NSS and Youth Services Participation
Chitkara University hosted a tree plantation drive titled ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ as part of a larger initiative led by the National Service Scheme (NSS). The event focused on raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainability through the planting of trees. This initiative reflects the growing need for collective action in addressing environmental challenges and contributing to a greener future.
The event was attended by Rupinder Kaur, Assistant Director, and Kulwinder Singh, Deputy Director, Youth Services, NSS, Punjab. Their presence highlighted the importance of such environmental campaigns and the vital role that trees play in preserving ecosystems, much like the nurturing role of mothers in caring for their children.
Chitkara University leadership, including Dr. S.C. Sharma, Registrar, Dr. K.K. Mishra, Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of IQAC, and Prof. Harkiran Kaur, PVC of CAN, took an active part in planting saplings during the event.
With the participation of Deans, Directors, Faculty Members, and over 200 NSS volunteers from various departments, more than 150 saplings were planted during the event. These saplings symbolise a collective commitment to environmental protection and represent the university’s dedication to contributing to a healthier planet. The drive also encouraged the younger generation to adopt sustainable practices and instilled in them a sense of duty towards the environment.
As the planted trees grow, they will serve as a lasting reminder of the university’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The event was a successful demonstration of how educational institutions can contribute meaningfully to ecological preservation and foster a culture of environmental awareness among students and the community.
