Chitkara University commemorates Le Corbusier on his 135th birth anniversary
Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture celebrated the 135th birth anniversary of the master architect Le Corbusier as “Commemorating Le Corbusier” today. The eminent architect Ar. Shiv Datt Sharma, a pioneer who has had the privilege of working with the master architect, Le Corbusier, was honored for his contribution on this occasion.
He shared the enriching experience he had working with Le Corbusier and motivated the students to take the path toward a better future in architecture. He further discussed how the observations he had in small villages inspired architects like him to design a better world. The veteran architect also opened up on the compassionate character of Le Corbusier and the fond memories of working with him.
Ophélie Beline, Director, Alliance Francaise, Chandigarh, delivered a special talk on the “Involvement of the French Embassy-Alliance Francaise Chandigarh in the Preservation of Le Corbusier Heritage.”
Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor, Chitkara University, thanked the esteemed guests for enlightening the students and said, “Le Corbusier’s work in Chandigarh will always be relevant and it is the duty of our young architects to carry this legacy forward. We, at Chitkara University, aim to provide our students with a truly global experience and the best of opportunities to remain motivated.”
In addition to this, the event included two exciting competitions. 1. Footprints: Caricaturing Corbusier’s Journey. 2. The Concrete Steps: Corbusier’s Philosophy on the Ramp. Students showed genuine enthusiasm in both events and participated wholeheartedly. The winners of the events were felicitated by the esteemed guests. Overall, the event was a grand success and delivered a true tribute to the master “Le Corbusier”.
