Chitkara University Celebrates Women’s Equality Day with Badminton Tournament
Chitkara University celebrated Women’s Equality Day with a spirited display of athleticism and empowerment by hosting the ‘Strings of Strength’ Badminton Tournament. Organised by the Matrix Club under the aegis of the Department of Computer Applications, in collaboration with the Department of Interior Design and the University Sports Board, the event brought together students from across the university in a show of strength, skill, and solidarity.
The tournament aimed to highlight the significance of gender equality, not only in academic and professional arenas but also in sports, an area where Chitkara University continuously promotes inclusivity. The badminton tournament attracted a large audience, with students and faculty alike cheering on the participants. After several exciting matches, Naina Trehan, a final-year MCA student, emerged as the tournament champion. Her exceptional performance on the court earned her the first position, showcasing not just her athletic abilities but her unwavering commitment to excellence. Following closely behind, Shreya Patle, a third-semester student of B.Des, secured the second position with her outstanding play and sportsmanship. The third position was claimed by Devika Malik from the CSE-AI program, who impressed the audience with her resilience and skill.
Speaking at the event, representatives from the Matrix Club and the University Sports Board emphasised the importance of such initiatives in promoting gender equality and providing platforms for women to shine in all aspects of university life. The tournament was not just a sports competition but a powerful statement of solidarity and the continuous push for equality on and off the court.
