Chitkara University, Punjab, marked the festival of Lohri, with a vibrant celebration that brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests. The evening commenced with the traditional lighting of the bonfire by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab, symbolizing warmth, gratitude, and new beginnings. The event was attended by senior university officials, including Pro Vice Chancellors, deans, and directors, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while fostering a sense of community.

Adding an international dimension to the celebrations, the university welcomed Dr. Ki Suk Kyuawn, Vice President for International Affairs, Hanbat National University, Korea, and Dr. Sell Sun Sue, Emeritus Professor, Hannam University, Korea. Their presence highlighted Chitkara University’s emphasis on global collaboration and cultural exchange, further strengthening academic ties with international institutions.

The celebrations featured a variety of student-led initiatives, including stalls displaying handcrafted jewellery, interactive games, and creative exhibits. Traditional cultural performances added to the vibrancy of the evening, showcasing Punjab’s rich heritage through folk music, Giddha, Bhangra, and Jindua performances. The university’s musical group, Dhwani, captivated the audience with soulful melodies, while the energetic beats of traditional dance forms infused the atmosphere with enthusiasm.

As the evening progressed, the festivities concluded with a DJ night, where students came together to celebrate under the open sky. The aroma of traditional Lohri delicacies such as revadi, peanuts, and popcorn filled the air, enhancing the festive spirit. The event provided a platform for students to engage with cultural traditions while fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie.
