International Chess Day

In a dynamic celebration of International Chess Day, the Department of Interior Design at Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture, along with the Department of Computer Applications, organised the ‘Strategy on Board’ tournament. The event was held in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the University Sports Board, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering strategic thinking and intellectual development among students.

The tournament saw an impressive turnout, with 97 participants from various departments showcasing their strategic prowess in this classic game of intellect. The event was designed not only to celebrate the timeless game of chess but also to encourage students to engage in activities that stimulate critical thinking and strategic planning.

Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, emphasised the importance of such intellectual pursuits in the holistic development of students. “Chess is more than just a game; it’s a training ground for the mind. It enhances problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and patience. We are proud to host this tournament and provide our students with a platform to hone these essential skills,” she remarked.

The tournament featured intense rounds of matches, with participants from different academic backgrounds competing fiercely yet sportingly. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the silent intensity characteristic of serious chess play, punctuated by moments of triumphant moves and thoughtful pauses.

Among the 97 chess enthusiasts who took part, three students emerged victorious, demonstrating exceptional skill and strategic acumen. Danish Awasthi, a second-year student of Computer Science Engineering (CSE), clinched first place. Dhruv Chhabra, a third-year CSE student, secured the second position, while Aadish Parashar, a third-year student specialising in CSE-AI, took the third spot. Their victories were celebrated with much enthusiasm, and they were awarded trophies and certificates of excellence.

The success of ‘Strategy on Board’ reflects the collaborative spirit and the interdisciplinary approach of Chitkara University, where departments work together to create enriching experiences for students. The involvement of the NSS and the University Sports Board further underscores the university’s dedication to promoting diverse extracurricular activities that contribute to the well-rounded development of its students.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Chitkara expressed her appreciation for the organisers, participants, and collaborators who made the event a grand success. “Events like these are a testament to the vibrant campus life at Chitkara University. They provide a wonderful opportunity for students to engage, compete, and learn beyond the classroom. We look forward to hosting many more such events that inspire and challenge our students.”
