Chitkara University, Punjab, celebrated the 76th Republic Day of India with dignity and patriotic spirit. The event began with the unfurling of the national flag by Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University, accompanied by Dr. Sandhir Sharma, Vice Chancellor, and other dignitaries. The tricolour, hoisted against the backdrop of a crisp morning sky, symbolised the enduring spirit of a nation built on sacrifice and resilience. The cadets from the NCC, Maritime, Security, Air, and Navy units marched with precision and pride, reflecting the values of discipline, courage, and dedication.

This year’s theme, “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Progress), underscored the university’s commitment to preserving India’s rich cultural legacy while embracing future growth. A key highlight of the celebrations was the Exploretorium, where the Museum of Silence presented a poignant reminder of the country’s historical struggles. The exhibit featured the Room of Unheard Voices, which shared stories of unsung heroes; the Room of Hidden Faces, acknowledging the sacrifices of those often forgotten; and the Room of Digital Chains, prompting reflection on the evolving definition of freedom in the digital age.

The cultural segment brought history and heritage to life through art and performance. A thought-provoking play, Samajhdaar Pagal, explored the significance of the Right to Information Act and the enduring legacy of social activists like Aruna Roy. Traditional dance forms such as Bharatnatyam and Kathak highlighted the harmonious blend of India’s classical heritage with contemporary aspirations. The evening concluded with a moving musical performance, Qurbaan Hai, composed and performed by Dhwani, paying tribute to the spirit of sacrifice that defines the Indian Republic.

The Republic Day celebration at Chitkara University was not just a ceremonial event but a reminder of the responsibilities that come with freedom. The university reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing informed, responsible citizens capable of shaping a progressive and inclusive future. The event served as a testament to the enduring values of democracy, unity, and collective strength that define the Indian Republic.
