Chitkara students spend time with the elderly at Senior Citizen Home, fill old hearts with joy

Nursing students at Chitkara School of Health Sciences visited the Senior Citizen Home in Sector 15-D, Chandigarh. The aim of the visit was to provide joy & a sense of belonging to the old and make them feel special. During the visit, students learnt about the services provided for the aged people like accommodation, food and general health checkups at the old age home. During the interaction, students got an opportunity to interact with elderly people and understand their vulnerabilities – physical, psychological, financial and dependence on others for their basic needs. Later, the importance of physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle were highlighted to the residents by the students.

Material assistance in form of basic essential items and medicines were also provided. Students also performing fun activities for them in exchange for smiles. Their performances made the senior citizens happy and forget the sorrows of not having their loved ones around for a short while. The residents of old age home conveyed their appreciation and gratitude to students for organising the interaction meet and showing concern towards the elderly. The visit, they added, rejuvenated their drooping spirit and filled the old hearts with joy and content.
