Chitkara Startup scores GOLD at China, bags top spot at Global Innovation Challenge, Ingenuity 2018, for ‘Moksh’
Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) and its key partner Chitkara University led 4 startups from India to the Global Innovation Challenge for Startups at The University of Nottingham, Ningbo China. Not only did they bag laurels for Chandigarh, but also paved a way for an International corridor built by “Ingenuity” a global innovation challenge by the University of Nottingham, Di lak Sum Incubator & UNNC Incubator Park, Ningbo, China.
In a high-quality event, three Indian Startups from Chandigarh Tricity and Haryana won major awards at Ingenuity 2018, an innovation-focused Startup battle at University of Nottingham Ningbo, China. They now have a golden chance to expand their global presence in China & the UK. Indian farm engineering startup from Chitkara University, Chandigarh, “Moksh” won (score 75.96%) the 1st top spot and bagged prize money of 200 thousand RMB (Yuan)/20Lakhs INR in nail-biting global innovation challenge. They emerged winners from 17 global teams from China, UK and India. Their winning USP was the global importance of the innovative idea that simplifies the life of a farmer’s post-harvest and yet helps them earn more from the crop waste.
A total 17 teams from three nations UK, China and India presented their business ideas, and a total of 10 top teams including Moksh, got an Exclusive International Pass for having swift business establishments with the local govt support in China and in the UK. The winning pitch from Moksh was delivered by its Founder Dr. Nitin Saluja, an entrepreneur from the Chitkara Innovation Incubator located at Chandigarh. This is a milestone for CRIKC (Chandigarh Region Innovation & Knowledge Cluster) & Chitkara University’s Startups. All these 17 companies achieved a gracious entry in the International market of aspiring Innovators and Unicorns. The total of 6 top winning companies will co-found in India, China and in the UK.
The 2nd spot winners were two projects, one from Panchkula, India named “Docs and Blocks” (score 74.68%) a company into non duplicate of documents through Blockchain technologies and the other one from China into Animal Husbandry Intelligent Management System using RFID Technology that implants an electronic ear tag in livestock and pets for management efficiency. Both got 100,000 RMB.
Chitkara University’s DAT, a company into braille education and social space for making education for the blind globally easy, was declared as the Best International Project at the event. They won (10,000 UK pounds) by Hayden Green Foundation UK. The Award was given by its trustee Prof. Hardev Singh from HGI. E-Braille Slate is a project devised by DAT for making education for the blind painless and comfortable. The project, under the supervision of CURIN (Chitkara University Centre for Research and Innovation), has a high international relevance as its addresses millions of people with the deficiency. This project was especially applauded by the jury and the audience.
Over 400 guests, a 5 member Jury, investors from China, Government officials from China, Industry mentors from India, China and the UK, attended the event. One of the Jury members was from India, Mr. Sohrabh Sitaram – Co-Founder Keventers. Other Officials from India and Chitkara University included Mr. Sumeer Walia, Director, Chitkara University Centre for Entrepreneurship and Education Development, Mr. Sanjeev Sahni, Director, International affairs, Chitkara University. The event was coordinated and organised by the Li Dak Sum, Incubator Director, Ms. Mia Shen, along with her team of dynamic officials at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo.
The Ingenuity 2018 business competition saw strong and focused mentoring sessions by VC’s, Experts in Marketing, IPR and Technology Commercialisation. There were three, 1 hour each session, by these subject matter experts. Startups with diverse sectors pitched at the Global finals, on subjects including, Photochromic material, 5G-Internet of Things Radiofrequency, Racing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, MicroLED Chip, Stem Cell Drugs, Farm Engineering, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Electric Drive System, Drone Technology, Block Chain, Education Solutions for the Blind, Traffic Management Solutions and among others.
Ingenuity18 aims to look for the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators at The University of Nottingham to find creative solutions to the issues faced by contemporary society. The event is designed to inspire and develop future leaders and innovators who can help transform society and add to the global impact. This year, Ingenuity18 was be delivered in three key parts: Inspire, Develop and Compete – designed to develop the mind, enhance skills, and help transform ideas into reality.
