Chitkara School of Applied Sciences celebrates World Water Day
Chitkara School of Applied Sciences, Chitkara University, Punjab celebrated “World Water Day”. On this occasion, a Water Literacy Club was inaugurated by Dr Jyotsna Kaushal, Deputy Dean, Chitkara School of Applied Sciences. The aim of the Club is to create awareness among the people about water conservation and water footprint. An expert talk on ‘Constructed Wetland’ was given by Dr. Onkar Singh Barraich, Associate Professor, Punjabi University Patiala to motivate students to adopt water conservation methods. A poster presentation and panel discussion competition was also held on Water for Sustainable Development. The First position was bagged by Pratha Malhotra and Mridula Sharma and the Second position was secured by Namanjit Singh and Himani Sharma in Poster Presentation Competition. In the Panel Discussion, Gurpreet Narula secured the First position and Pratha Malhotra won the second position.
World Water Day is an annual event celebrated on 22 March. The day focuses attention on the importance of universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in developing countries. The day also focuses on advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
World Water Day is supported by stakeholders across the globe. Many organizations promote clean water for people and sustainable aquatic habitats. Events such as theatrical and musical celebrations, educational events, and campaigns to raise money for access to clean and affordable water are held worldwide on or close to 22 March.
