Chitkara Institute of Engineering & Technology celebrated 49th Engineer’s Day with with great enthusiasm
Institution of Engineers of India (IEI) Student Chapter and Chitkara Institute of Engineering & Technology (CIET) celebrated 49th Engineers’ Day to commemorate the birthday of the Legendary Engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya at Engineers Bhawan, Sector 19 Chandigarh. The theme for the national-level event was “Skill Development for Young Engineers to reform the Core Sector: Vision 2025”.
Light was thrown on Sir Mokshagundam’s life stating that he was a noted Indian Engineer of all times. He was also honoured with India’s highest honour Bharat Ratna in 1955. He was the man behind the flood protection system. He served as a chief engineer during construction of Krishna Raja Sagara on the Kaveri River near Mysore. Several dams are still functioning that were built under him.
Internationally recognised for his genius in harnessing water resources, he was responsible for successful design and construction of several river dams, bridges and implementing irrigation and drinking water schemes all over India.
He served as the dewan of Mysore State and was considered to be the architect of the all-round development of Karnataka.
