Chitkara College of Nursing organized Six days Workshop on HIV/AIDS
Stepping up the pace of WHO to fight against HIV/AIDS, Chitkara College of Nursing organized Six days’ Workshop on HIV/AIDS. The workshop was aimed at enriching faculty & students’ knowledge about HIV/AIDS & making them efficient enough in providing quality care to People living with AIDS. Sessions on various topics like Prevention of transmission of HIV, Mother to Child transmission, Post exposure prophylaxis, Sexually transmitted diseases, Stigma & discrimination against these patients, Rights of patients with HIV positive status, Challenges faced by health professionals etc were conducted by Ms Bandana Bisht, Ms Kiranpreet Kaur & Ms Manjot Kaur who are certified trainers for HIV/AIDS awareness training. The workshop included various Role plays, Case Scenarios and Visit to Art Centre in Patiala.
Under National AIDS Control Program (NACO), various ART Centers are functional throughout India for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Students and Faculty of Chitkara College of Nursing visited one of such ART( anti-retroviral therapy) centre in Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Senior Medical Officer explained them about ART services available to HIV patients, HIV testing, Record maintenance, Treatment adherence and Referral services available in their center. Students interacted with the counselors and staff to know about the challenges they face while working with HIV patients.
The students also got the opportunity to talk to HIV patients undergoing treatment of ART. The aim of the visit to infuse empathy and confidence in students and faculty while caring for HIV patients was successfully achieved.
