Chitkara College of Nursing organised an Awareness Talk on Depression the theme of World Health Day 2017
To scale up the WHO initiative, Chitkara College of Nursing Chitkara organized an Awareness Talk on ‘Depression- It’s okay; not to be okay, let’s talk’, as it is the theme of The year 2017 of “World Health Day”. Depression is a major topic of concern to people all over the world which means “for someone living with depression, talking to a person they trust is often the first step towards treatment and recovery.”
Addressing the students Dr Sandeep Goyal, Professor and HOD, Dept. of Psychiatry, Christian Medical College & Hospital Ludhiana who has a great expertise in the field of psychiatry, talked about Depression, its causes, warning signs & symptoms and how it can be prevented and treated. He emphasized the importance of talking about depression with family members & friends as this would help to break down the stigma and ultimately leading more people to seek professional help. He emphasized to identify suicidal cues so that untimely deaths due to suicide can be prevented especially in vulnerable groups like adolescents.
He also gave important tips to maintain mental health and prevent depression. An expert talk was followed by an open discussion house and the event was aired live by Radio Chitkara 107.8 FM to reach out to masses, under CSR initiative. Along with this, a poster exhibition on the theme ‘Depression-let’s talk’ was also organized by B.Sc. Nursing 3rd yr & Intern students.
