Chitkara College of Nursing celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2016

Chitkara College of Nursing celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2016 from 1st Aug to 5th Aug by organizing various activities. Every year this week comes with a Theme and this year’s theme is “BREASTFEEDING: A KEY TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”. Being organized by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), WHO and UNICEF, WBW came up with the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life which yield tremendous health benefits providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases such as Pneumonia and fostering growth and development in the child.

Week started with Radio Talk and the Program was aired on Radio Chitkara 107.8FM throughout the week every two hourly.

This was followed by Intra University Rangoli making Competition & Poster Exhibition Competition. An Expert Talk on Breastfeeding and Weaning was given by Dr. Kanya Mukhopadhyay, Professor, Neonatology, Deptt.of Pediatrics, PGIMER,Chandigarh. Ms. Harminder, Public Health Nurse, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Ms. Prabhjeet, Public Health Nurse, PGIMER, Chandigarh also addressed the nursing students.

For creating awareness on this important topic students of B.Sc. (N) 3rd year gave awareness talk to the ladies at Anganwadi of Village Kalomajra, adopted by Chitkara University.
