Chitkara Alumni Harkaran Singh and Nikhil Ride to Create Awareness on Organ Donation

Published on March 3, 2016 | 2200 views

Be it ‘Save the Girl Child’, helping an orphanage or prostate cancer, Royal Thunderers have proved their mettle through riding for several causes and yet again this non-profitable organization started by Harkaran Singh and Nikhil, Chitkara Alumni, is all set to ride for organ donation.

The group consists of professionals working in different streams. They all share a passion for their bikes and this passion has led to over 800 riders becoming a part of the group from all over India. The group has an Australian, who is Sales Head Asia Pacific-Metso Minerals Ltd., working for the cause with them.

Their motto is “Burning Rubber & Not Soul” and living up to that every now and then, the group keeps organizing small rides for a cause. Over a course of four-years, our young riders have created awareness towards- Save The Girl Child during Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari ride (2014), also for Prostate Cancer Ride (2014 and 2015).They had partnered with Decathlon-Mohali for Children of The God (Snehalya –An orphanage in Chandigarh) in 2014.

Now, they are all set to create awareness towards organ donation! The topic is not very popular among Indians but sooner or later it needs to be addressed. With crude death rate of 7.35 deaths/1000 population and an ever-increasing demand for organs, we can make a difference by pledging to donate our organs. This would be the greatest charity, which will live on even after one’s demise, according to the riders.

On March 3, the group started their ride from Chandigarh. They will be covering Delhi, Nepal, Bhutan, East India with the final destination being Burma.
The riders intend to take regular halts in between for creating awareness among the masses. In this cause, they are being supported by Organ India and Chitkara University. Cause for this ride is ‘Pledge Organs, Save Life And Be A Hero’.

They had come to Chitkara University on March 2 for creating awareness on organ donation and had an interaction with our students.

Their journey was flagged off by Wing Commander (Retd) R. S. Gill, Vice President, Chitkara University Punjab, who takes pride in having alumni like Harkaran & Nikhil associated with Chitkara University.
