Architecture students win ‘Bascule Bridge’

TechXplore 2014’ brought in a lot of excitement and fun for students at Chitkara University and it carried out a lot of events. One event that spelt success for students of Chitkara School of Planning and Architecture was ‘Bascule Bridge’.

CSPA won the first prize for the event, ‘Bascule Bridge’ in Techexplore 2014. The team was required to design a bridge made out of Balsa wood, popsicle sticks, tooth pick glue, and thread and it had to be moveable that moves (either horizontally or vertically) to allow passage for boats and barges. The judging criterion was based on the working and the behavior of the structure against dead and moving load.

The model designed by the students was made up of approximately 2000 ice cream sticks comprising of two parts such that they opened from the mid. Also, the model could support a moving load of 35 kgs against 10 kgs as required. The winning team of Amandeep Johal and Harneet Singh won the competition that included a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Kudos to all our participants and congratulations for the winners.
